(Sung to the similar tune from Sound Of Music)
Cavalry charging, and howitzers blazing
Infantry marching, and stealth bombers razing
Seagoing transport ships full of marines
These are a few of my favorite things
Fortified legions, and wars for peace keeping
City improvements, and nights without sleeping
Citizens crying out, "We love the King!"
These are a few of my favorite things
When the walls break,
When the bombs drop,
When the air-raid sounds
I simply remember my favorite things
And hope my AkAk...
Has rounds
Pyramids, Lighthouse, and Great Wall all pending
Republic governments increasing spending
Manhattan Project and all that it brings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the nukes launch
When the globe warms
When the Celts are dead
I simply remember my favorite things
And face the workday...
With dread....
Merry Christmas all

that's beautiful! ^_^
my favorite things are the sound of tromping feet as i march into a captured city, and that special, magical moment when the city's name appears half in the enemy civ's color and half in my color. especially if it's the capital of the most powerful civ and contains nine or ten wonders. ha ha.

I say, that's pretty good.
How much time did you spend putting that piece together Orcus?

Werefox, thanx :-)
Dom, about ten minutes to actually compose it. Had the show tune in my head all day, but I don't know the words so I started thinking, hmmm....
Theben, ummm, my dreams are pretty weird, dude, that would get me into trouble...
Senor Temba, have at it. If there are any requests for further parodies, I've got about a thousand under my belt from my teenage years, I'd be happy to do more (provided I know the song you're talking about). If they're not about Civ, I'll have to move to the off-topic forum.

(inspired by Orcus, Jesse tries in vain to write a song...)
Units that aren't orange
And bombs that.... CRAP!
Oh well... so much for my song... My favorite thing is actually (looks down in shame) the foreign minister chick on the city council when she has a russian accent...

I love parodies, espescially the ones in MAD. But if you have any more I'd like to hear them. Espescially if they are about civ!

Jesse,
I must also shamefully admit that I enjoy
that "aspect" of Civ 2 also. We are sad. ;-)
So when is the "adult" version of Civ 2 coming out? Tyra Banks will be my "happiness" advisor.

The Foriegn Minister "chick" has a name: she is a talented actress called April Cantor. I believe that those sick enough to want to make love to someone on a stragety computer game better get a social life - there is a huge world outside the Internet and your job/education.Communism and totalitarilism go like cheese and wine - prevention of sick people and prostituition leads to a happy society. Comrade Dan, are you a communist? Am I (The original) not alone in my quest to impose a new govt. type? Quite frankly, I'm actually an anarchist... But communism is the closest thing so far! [This message has been edited by Hodad (edited November 11, 1999).] |

Yes I am a communist, and it's brilliant being here in sunny Cuba, smoking a fat Cuban cigar and drinking Cuban vodka - very hard to find as Cuba grows few potatoes.Humanity learnt a valuable lesson in anarchy - THE FRENCH REVOLUTION OF 1789. The French nobles and merchants were laid to waste by the Third Assembly, which in turn was backstabbed by Robisperre and his 'Reign of Terror'. The Rev. of '89 was also a breeding ground for ideas around democracy and communism - kind of ironic, isn't it? LONG LIVE THE SOVIETS (and the legacy of the French Revolution of 1789). |

How old are you exactly, Comrade? I'm just curious. Actually, I think that Democracy has nothing to do with Communism. Democracy is a political system and Communism an economic system. [This message has been edited by Hodad (edited November 12, 1999).] |

I think of Communism as more of a social system, and in their pure forms, Communism and Democracy have very similar ideals: equality, freedom, etc. Only Communism was more radical, but often true democracy sprung Communism in the 19th century. |

Hodad, I am 31 years old, and a member of the International Communist Party branch in New Zealand. So I do know what I'm talking about. I hope I have satisfied your curiosity.Communism was screwed up because of Americans hatred of Communism (except between 1941 and 1945), that and Stalin's dictatorship, the American backing of the Menshevik army (defeated by the Reds in 1920), following Britain's lead in politics in Europe, blah, blah, blah... Howitzers and railroads. I usually give my enemy railroad just so I can use them against him (I make sure to complete Darwin's first). And of course the throne room. Some things don't really influence gameplay, but they should know better to take them out. |
