Just trying to fuel the discussion "civer versus junior civer" as there seems to be a renewed interest in the matter (new thread). DARTH KRAFTER, check out the suggestions above. What do you think? Carolus [This message has been edited by Carolus Rex (edited June 07, 1999).] |

Carolus Rex:Good suggestion with the seven levels above, cooresponding with the game's difficulty. One question: The seventh level, what is "MP"?? Just some personal taste, I always prefer the final "level" to be Grand Master. According to your post, I would be a chieftain, which sounds much better than "jr civer". It makes me feel like a little kid or something... |

Yeah, I know what you mean. "Junior" just sounds lame.MP = Multiplayer in this case. Haven't tried it myself yet. My butt is too sensitive to be kicked around by all the sharks here at Apolyton Check out the other "junior"-thread! They might be able to change things after all. No more "junior"? Carolus Rex, I like your formula, but think it should be applied only to folks Replying (how does one emphasise in these posts without "yelling"?)to pleas for help in the "Help" and "Strategy" forums, a far more positive contribution than our pleasant, but largely aimless chat in this forum.------------------

<<(how does one emphasise in these posts without "yelling"?)>>By using "[ i ]" and "[ /i ]" (without the spaces and quotes), you can italicize words and by using "[ b ]" and "[ /b ]" (again without the spaces or quotes) you can get bold type. By combining both, you get this Mark |

Thanks Mark...I'm sorry, but when I typed , what you see is what I got...have I misunderstood you? Should it not have been something like Alt + B (which emboldens the text on my word-processor - "Eight-In-One", but along with your suggestions, doesn't work for me here). I apologize for my stupidity. ------------------

Okay, so we can only use two different types of names which brings me back to my original suggestion of May 09, 1999 above:"But the term "junior" is somewhat derogatory. I would prefer (in the spirit of civ) that a new member be a "member" and after a certain number of posts become a "veteran member". Follows the Civ theme, no?" This would be great for someone like myself who doesn't like to see "jr" before my handle but doesn't do much more than read on these forums and thus will likely be "jr" for quite a while longer. btw, how do you quote another post? I've seen other people quote (as I did above) but the quote appears between two lines and is obviously a quote. |

And if all the hundreds of people who came here also posted a bunch of empty messages just to get rid of the junior title... Geez!It looks like there is enough immaturity around here that it would probably be best to eliminate "titles" altogether. Some people just seem incapable of dealing with it. People, it is _truly_ meaningless. |

Krushala: Yes this post has been around a long time, and thanks to posts such as yours above, it probably won't be around much longer. A member of the American Navy, why am I not suprised that you would do something that is inconsiderate of others, something so obviously self serving, something that is so, well, American.Sieve too: In life, acceptance of a derogatory (sp?) nickname will likely make people forget it, in civ it stays with you (until you post enough for it to go away). And finally, Sir David: Me, a serious poster? Although I have referred to one or more of my posts as being serious, I have posted approximately a dozen times in the last two months. Despite checking the board on a fairly regular basis (What else am I supposed to do at work, my job? yeah right ) I don't think that I could be generalized as anything be it serious or anything else. (Actually I could be generalized as being Canadian, that I am ). To any other junior members out there, resist the urge to do as Krushala did, for maturity (by maturity I mean the elimination of the "jr") gained through any method other than the posting of threads is hollow and therefore meaningless. P.S. SD just reread my post before posting, serious may be a fair generalization |

I propose promoting Sparrowhawk early to full Civ-ness! I'm all in favor of dropping titles for non-Administrators to help elimnate spam posts, and while it would be fun to have multiple levels, I think the spams would get worse. If you are interested in keeping track of Sir David's post count, you can check his profile. (civer/vet civer does sound better) |

1. this thread should be at the top (now it is)2. When I posted my first messages here, I was pretty angry that I was named a junior civer. I was a junior poster, or a junior multiplayer, but I was already playing civ for 5 years at that moment !! AND FOR SURE NOT A JUNIOR CIVER !!!!! just to clear that up Change the titles to poster and regular poster. And then move the number of posts you have to become regular poster up to 250. Then you can easily recognize the people that don't post much, and the people that do post much. That's good to sort out who you should take serious and who not CyberShy |

blackbob,"If you talk rubbish then you'll be ignored!" Unfortunately not. Go to the off-topic forum and check out some posters' ignorance, intolerance and stupidity. True, more sensible people try to argue with them but that's a hopeless crusade I will not join. I spend too much time here as it is. Carolus
